Hey Derek,

I was pokin' around trying to find out whether or not Panda
is supported by Sentinel. Looked within the program wizard
and didn't see it listed. Then I checked the web page for
compatibility and came up empty. Could you please clarify.

I found the exe. file that launches the AV and it just goes to
the main screen of Panda without scanning the two test files
in the wizard.

Looking forward to your reply...... Smile

Take care, Ray

No I didn't notice this post (the message icons on the left weren't colored so I didn't check)

I don't think I've ever tested Panda personally - but from what I understand, the downloadable version is not the same as the Platinum version (does not include some features).

Check the Panda folder for any exe that may contain "cmd" or anything that contains "scan". A lot of anti-virus programs will include an on-demand dos-based scanner that will work with Sentinel (just a matter of finding the right one).

The best way to test a dos-based scanner would be to open the command-prompt and try to pass some files to it (to see if it scans)

For example:

cmdscan.exe C:\testfile.txt, C:\testfile2.txt

If that was the exe you were trying to test, you could try something similar to that to see if it will scan the two files successfully - the reason you may need the dos prompt is that usually the dos window will close immediatelly after the program has completed execution (in other words, you would see a black window pop up and close almost immediatelly).

Hopefully you can find something; I have a couple virtual pc's I can test it on - I'll check the panda documentation later to see if there are differences between the pay and free versions.

Derek

Well, I tried all that I could but couldn't come up with the proper one.

For example:

cmdscan.exe C:\testfile.txt, C:\testfile2.txt

Is this the actual text to type into the "run" box?
cmdscan.exe C:\testfile.txt
Because if it is, I just get a warning that windows cannot find cmdscan.

Derek

Looking forward to your test results
I'll provide you with the LINK as to where I aquired Panda from.

Take care

Hey RJ:

I figured out how to get Panda 7.0 Platinum to work. Here are the directions:

-Open Sentinel; click on the Options tab, then click on "Edit Settings"
-Click on the big button "Click here to setup your Anti-Virus/Trojan Applications"
-Click on the Locate button and choose any exe file in the main panda folder.
-After you do that, modify the text box:

OLD TEXT: C:\Program Files\Panda Software\Panda Antivirus Platinum\Pavw.exe
NEW TEXT: C:\Program Files\Panda Software\Panda Antivirus Platinum\Pavcl.com

-And don't forget to add the following to the "Optional Command-Line Arguments" box:
Code:
/NSB /NOM /AUT

Those three agruments specify:
/NSB: Do not scan recursive sub-directories
/NOM: Do not scan the memory (you may want to omit this - enable it in other words)
/AUT: No User Intervention (scans and immediatelly closes dos window which is nice)

I'm going to patch Sentinel soon to support Panda out of the box; and also change the Anti-Virus dialogs to also support .Com files and any other file for that matter.

Derek,

Ok, I followed those directions to the letter.
Made sure to save after every step.
Added the /NSB /NOM /AUT in the Command Line Arguments box.

I then closed Sentinel and the re-started it.
Went to the wizard and tried the "Test" scan.
Pushed the button and I really didn't see anything happen.
Normally with say AVG you get the box pop-up that says scan complete.
Then scanned the system and had one failed file.
So this time I thought I'd get the AV to scan the file.
Again I didn't see anything happen.
Maybe I'm not suppose to?

When you did your test did the AV just scan silently or did you
get the actual program Panda to pop and say scan complete?

If at all possible after your Developer Conference perhaps you can enable
screen-shots on this board and I can show you exactly what I"m
doing on my end.
Just a thought. Wink

Then again I can just be patient and wait for you to impliment this
into your next patch. Smile

Thanks again for your efforts and have a good time at the Conference.

Take care, Ray

yeah that /AUT thing will make the command window show up and hide very quickly. so if you remove it, you should see the dos window still there (unless it will close anyways).

Also, make sure you have that .com file in the panda folder - hopefully it comes with every version.

I'll enable screenshot uploading in a sec...

Hey Derek,

I downLoaded the updates with no problem what-so-ever. 2.0.71
Sentinel is now updated and showing Panda Platinum 7.0 in the select list.
So I highlite that entry and click on Search for Selection.
Sentinel then says "Success" and enters this text into the larger box,

C:\Program Files\Panda Software\Panda Antivirus Platinum\Pavcl.com

And this into the smaller box,

/NSB /NOM /AUT

This was by the way, the stuff we had enterd manually into the proggie.
Which would have been correct as well.

Then its on to step 2 for the big test.

When I click on the test button nothing happens as far as conformation that the files
were indeed scanned. Did you get conformation during testing stages?
I don't think I'm holding my mouth right. Laughing
When I go to the Panda folded and find the file mentioned above,
and double click it, I'll see the MS dos window flash and thats it.

I then went to the Panda download that installed my AV and ran that.
It then gave me the option to Repair or Remove the Program.
The Repair feature repairs errors in the program. Also, will restore damaged or missing
files, shortcuts, or registry entries. So I ran that thinking I may have accidently removed
an important file with my registry cleaner. Re-boot the PC. Try it again with same results.

Its funny because when I right click any item to scan with Panda the box appears
in about 2-5 seconds with the scan results. So we know the on demand scan works.

Is this the same "exe" that is entered in the larger box? *Ray twiddles thumbs* Smile

OK, enough of this seriousness....
How was the conference you attended?
Did you learn about nucular fission. Smile
Or just programming related stuff?

Take care, Ray

Actually you probably won't see a window up for very long when it is scanning - a dos window should open up and close relatively quickly.

In the Advanced options, try to Enable the "Use Short Path File names" and disable "Enclose files in quotes".

If you remove the /AUT option, then command window will stay open until you close it (you can try removing it to see if Sentinel is calling Panda correctly).

Oh and the virus scanner that pops up when you right click on the files will not be the same as the one that Sentinel is using (unfortunatelly) - just plain old dos.

Anyways, the conference was pretty informative. I learned lots of useful tips and tricks from many software professionals. Yeah, it was all programming related but we did get to see these 6 sexy ladies 'make over' 4 geeks (they called it "Chic Eye for the IT Guy"). Very Happy
