Hello,
I tried Sentinel 2 which seems very good sofware. I got the information on my favorite french forum (PCAstuces.com) in the Security forum.
Well I read the tutorial and followed the instructions, but Sentinel doesn't want to run at beginning and watch. I had selected auto-load, auto-scan and auto-logging, and I made the test at installation (my PC is already clean). My PC runs with Win 98 SE.
I tried to set the "use windows scripting hote" and reboot but nothing more.
Also explorer works oddly : the Sentinel icon on deskstop doesn't work properly (it gives properties when double-clicked, and do not load Sentinel). More, when I use after my other deskstop icons, the same bug ! (they worked well before I clicked on Sentinel one). I verified there wasn't any Sentinel process in the task manager. It wasn't neither in the msconfig (start programs) and neither in the systray.
When I reboot the computer at first use the icon is OK. At second assay it doen't work any more.... Well I distinstalled. This log is useful with auto-run for protection, not as dead program.... I hope there will be quickly a new version. I was very pleased when I found this software, because some others of same family (PrevX, Antihook) aren't available for my win 98 |

Hi everybody,
I can only confirm the problem. and I have the same problem. .
One of the users on the French Forum(PCAstuces) had the same problem. It would be great if there was an answer to the problem.
Thanks for any suggestion. |

Thank you for the bug reports - we will be able to look into this problem very soon. Keep checking the forums for more updates
Quick Question - When you select "Auto-Load" and hit Save, you should see the following entry in Start > Programs > Startup > "Sentinel" -- do you see this entry?
Also, make sure you are scanning some files on auto-load; I would use the following screenshot as a reference:
Aussi - Je viens de Quebec mais ca fait tres longtemps que je parle francais...Alors je n'excuse si mon francais ecrit n'est pas tres bon... J'ai lue les posts sur la forume a pcastudes.com - C'est important que tu telecharge version 2.1.0 - c'est possible que le ficher sur SnapFile n'est pas la version recante.
Je ne suis pas tres proche de mon ordinateur development aujourduis, mais peuetre je peu tester Sentinel sur W98 demain. Merci encore pour les posts!

Hi thanks for interest MacPeter (nice to see you - Ayora), and RWareDerek.
For the precisions you're asking :
I assume the Sentinel version was the 2.0 (I always verify in Properties the file is the good one, with the correct version number). I tried first the Snapfile download, then the Runtimeware one (Sentinel own page). Both of them were the 2.0 version. I did this january the 13th.
There was something curious when I managed to parameter the log.
At install I ran the test (my PC is clean) and it took 5 minutes. Then I used the main settings assistant which asks in 2/3 windows which parameters to hold... I took auto-load at startup, auto-scan and auto-logging, then I made the other settings. Later I went in the advanced settings and then, I had to re-select auto-load which seemed oddly not to be selected. The same occurred after rebooting (when I tried to modify with "use windows scripting host). This setting seems not to be stable. On my configuration perhaps.
Otherwise I read the response to MacPeter in the second bug Forum (why two of them ?) and I believe I can take for granted the programm isn't in the systray and in task manager because it isn't running all time, only scanning system at the first early boot, and then proceed to quick scans all times given in setting. It economize CPU use, and ressources. OK. It is clear.
Something bothers me, it is the explorer behaviour (icons behaviour, that let think that some registry settings are modified, in a bad way, the associations of icons and executables (path for execution of a executable linked to an icon). It is reversible but not very fine indeed.... And perhaps some others registry changes can be here too (we see top of the iceberg).
Last thing I looked at msconfig : none of a Sentinel process in startup programs (I did it twice)
Read you soon RWareDerek, with results with your win 98 OS. Don't bother your french, it is quite good. I write in english because I try to improve mine. Nice to see you MacPeter. |
